Bachelor of Sciences in Nutrition

The Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition prepares nutrition professionals able to assess nutritional status and to design and deliver interventions for individuals, health facilities and communities. Building on the biological and physical sciences, the programme covers human nutrition and metabolism, maternal, infant and young child nutrition, the community and facility-based management of acute malnutrition, clinical dietetics and therapeutic nutrition, food science and food safety, nutrition assessment and surveillance, and nutrition in emergencies — all priority areas in the Somali context. Students undertake community and hospital placements and complete a research project. The curriculum comprises 218 credit units, 63 courses and 3,985 contact hours.

Career opportunities. Graduates work as nutritionists and dietitians in hospitals and health centres, in nutrition and food security programmes with government and humanitarian agencies, and in food safety, research and academia.

Prospective students must meet the following requirements:

1. Completion of Secondary School: You must have finished secondary school with at least a 50% overall average.
2. Certificates: Submit both the original and a copy of your secondary school certificate.
3. Photographs: Provide six (6) passport-sized photos with a white background.
4. Admission Test/Interview: Pass the required admission interview and/or test.
5. Registration Fee: Pay a registration fee of  $35
