The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences trains laboratory scientists competent to provide comprehensive diagnostic services in hospitals, clinics and public health laboratories. The curriculum covers clinical chemistry, haematology and blood transfusion science, medical microbiology, parasitology, immunology, histopathology and cytology, and molecular diagnostics, together with laboratory quality management, biosafety and biosecurity, instrumentation and laboratory information systems. Practical work in University laboratories is followed by supervised placements in hospital and reference laboratories, and the programme concludes with a research thesis. The curriculum comprises 241 credit units, 67 courses and 4,000 contact hours.

Career opportunities. Graduates work as medical laboratory scientists in hospital, private and public health laboratories, in blood transfusion services, in diagnostic quality assurance, and in disease surveillance and research.

Prospective students must meet the following requirements:

1. Completion of Secondary School: You must have finished secondary school with at least a 50% overall average.
2. Certificates: Submit both the original and a copy of your secondary school certificate.
3. Photographs: Provide six (6) passport-sized photos with a white background.
4. Admission Test/Interview: Pass the required admission interview and/or test.
5. Registration Fee: Pay a registration fee of  $35

The academic year at AMU spans 16 weeks, divided into two semesters.  (14 weeks for tuition and two weeks for examinations).

The first semester starts in September.
