The Bachelor of Pharmacy prepares pharmacists as experts in medicines and drug therapy. The programme opens with a solid foundation in the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences — pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology and pharmaceutical microbiology — and moves into pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacovigilance and pharmaceutical care. Professional skills laboratories provide clinical simulation and role-play so that students meet the realities of practice early. Responding to national challenges of medicine quality and supply, the curriculum deliberately strengthens pharmaceutical quality assurance, good manufacturing and distribution practice, and supply-chain management, and concludes with a supervised community and hospital pharmacy internship. The curriculum comprises 233 credit units, 61 courses and 4,760 contact hours.

Career opportunities. Graduates practise in hospital and community pharmacy, in the pharmaceutical industry and quality control, in medicines regulation and supply-chain management, and in clinical pharmacy and research.
