This programme prepares secondary school teachers of biology and chemistry, combining subject mastery with professional teacher preparation. Students study cell biology, genetics, human and plant biology, ecology and microbiology alongside general, organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry, supported by practical laboratory work. These are integrated with educational foundations, educational psychology, curriculum studies, methods of teaching biology and chemistry, educational measurement and assessment, instructional technology and classroom management. Responding to the national shortage of qualified science teachers, the programme places students in partner secondary schools for supervised teaching practice, culminating in an extended teaching internship, and includes a research project. The curriculum comprises 206 credit units, 59 courses and 3,090 contact hours.
Career opportunities. Graduates teach biology and chemistry in secondary schools, and progress into curriculum development, science laboratory coordination, school leadership, education programme work and postgraduate study
