The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees.
The Faculty of Medicine & Surgery offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree program. This program is designed to provide students with a thorough education in both the theoretical and practical aspects of medicine.
The faculty is organized into various departments, each specializing in different areas of medical science and practice. These departments work together to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that covers all essential aspects of medical training.
In addition to classroom instruction, the faculty is affiliated with a hospital that serves as a key component of the practical training for students. This hospital provides opportunities for hands-on experience through:
Core Clerkships: These are mandatory rotations where students gain essential clinical skills and experience in various medical specialties. Core clerkships are integral to the curriculum and are designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of different areas of medicine.
Elective Clerkships: These are optional rotations that allow students to explore specific areas of interest within the medical field. Elective clerkships offer students the flexibility to gain experience in specialized areas of medicine that align with their career goals and interests.
Overall, the combination of departmental instruction and practical training through the affiliated hospital equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their medical careers.
Prospective students must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of Secondary School: You must have finished secondary school with at least a 50% overall average.
- Certificates: Submit both the original and a copy of your secondary school certificate.
- Photographs: Provide six (6) passport-sized photos with a white background.
- Admission Test/Interview: Pass the required admission interview and/or test.
- Registration Fee: Pay a registration fee of $35
The duration of the course is Seven Years
divided in three phase:
- Phase I Premedical course mostly study in the Basic science course for the first two years.
- Phase II Preclinical & Clinical Integrated Medical Science
- Phase III Clinical & Clinical Clerkship
- The curriculum is 16 weeks per semester. There is a short break after each term and one month between two semesters & two months vacation at the end of academic year
The academic year at AMU spans 16 weeks, divided into two semesters. (14 weeks for tuition and two weeks for examinations).
The first semester starts in September.
